In this body of work my aim is to create an artistic overview of the disappearing way of rural Irish life in the 21st Century, by creating a series of portraits of elderly rural people. Using photography AND FILM I have focused on how the process of documentation and storytelling can itself create space, physically and emotionally, for real dialogue and to tell their stories - past and present.

A visual response to the 1916 Rising and an awareness of our history and environment and its role in shaping and developing the identities of the citizens of Ireland 100 years on.
The concept of this project is based on an awareness of how the development of national identity, is shaped by a deepened understanding of their community and its history and the connection between all.
