My work as an artist in the community
In my arts practice, I like to create an artistic dialogue in my own community and others by collaborating with a huge variety of people of all ages. Sometimes this collaboration is for educational purposes and other times it is simply to engage with those, who may not otherwise normally actively engage in the arts. This use of an artistic process for problem-solving, therapeutic, group-empowerment or strategic planning purposes, sometimes results in artistic works for public presentation. In my attempt to integrate art and everyday life
I am aspiring to be part of an art-making process that produces social awareness and change

2020 - 2021 | COPING WITH COVID / Work in Progress
Coping with Covid - An analysis of how members of rural and urban communities in County Laois, Ireland are coping with the Covid-19 pandemic. I initially started this project to provide a voice to rural elderly people, who may be suffering from loneliness and frustration during this time of physical and social isolation. However as the pandemic has lengthened, the project has recently been extended to include participants of all ages from all backgrounds, to give a better picture of how all of our society is coping. The project is ongoing and will culminate in a short film and a series of photographs which document first-hand accounts (positive and negative) of people in Co. Laois living within a pandemic by creating a visual document of this strange time in our history.

2018 Artist in School Award from Laois County Council
Designed and developed an art mural project in collaboration with the students of Cullohill National School. We created a series of drawing of flowers that bees like, on clay which eventually made up tiles, of a ceramic wall mural, of a 12 foot honey bee which decorated the outside wall of their school. Through engagement with art we sought to emphasise the importance of bees in our eco system and highlight the current problem of colony collapse disorder.
